Sabra E. Bailey from Long Island, NY is a 2013 BFA Dance Education graduate, from the University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA). Her degree is Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Education. Her earliest dance training began at the age of 2 1/2 following behind her mother who was also a dancer. Trained in various forms from Ballet, Ballroom, Dancehall to West African. Sabra went on to audition and become accepted for various professional dance programs starting with Harlem School of the Arts to completing High School at Professional Performing Arts School/ The Ailey School (NY,NY) in the top 10% with an advanced regents diploma, including various awards, as well as being the Vice President of her class.
Sabra continues to strengthen her craft by working with various choreographers, such as Nina McNeely and Chris Grant, while creating & performing solo/ group works of her own. Booking her first major gig with Def Jam’s Teyana Taylor with $5 in pocket racing to Manhattan from Long Island to audition for Teyana’s hit single “Maybe”. After the video shoot, Sabra ran into Teyana’s mom/management walking down 8th avenue and was invited into rehearsal for Teyana’s debut tour with August Alsina.
Sabra uses her dance education degree to teach youth across the country as well as adults in health and fitness. As a freelance artist, she performs at Church events, weddings, birthday parties and hosts her own “Twerkout class”. The class has become a favorite to women throughout her community, focusing on toning the lower body complete with a “twerk” combination. Outside of dance you can find Sabra at Six Flags, cooking like a Chopped champion or writing a horror novel. Sabra has been inspired by the works of pioneers like Katherine Dunham, Pearl Primus, Debbie Allen, Judith Jamison, Martha Graham and the modern minds of Tanisha Scott and Fatima Robinson.
