Javier Amaya was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he began his performing arts training. He is an Alvin Ailey fellowship recipient and BFA graduate from Marymount Manhattan College. Javier joined the Off-Broadway cast of Fuerza Bruta, also touring internationally in South Korea, Turkey, Romania, Italy, Argentina and as Dance Captain in Perú and China.
Javier had the honor of working directly with choreographers Rich & Tone, Spencer Liff, Doriana Sanchez, Geneviève Dorion Coupal, Erica Linz and Kevin Wilson as part of the original cast of 4 major projects including Royal Caribbean’s Broadway At Sea program. Javier served as Dance Captain and was a featured aerialist, flying 80 feet nightly above the audience.
A dancer for Grammy Award winners Olga Tañon and Gilberto Santa Rosa, Javier also performed with many popular Latin American recording artists. He was named the official choreographer for Miss Puerto Rico Universe and Miss República Dominicana Universo and later served as Assistant Choreographer with Scott Grossman and Michael Schwandt for the international telecast of Miss Universe in Mexico City and Las Vegas.
As a contemporary dancer, Javier has performed choreography by renowned artists such as as Trisha Brown, JiÅ™í Kylián, Jose Limón and Robbert Battle. Formerly of Luna Negra Dance Theater in Chicago, he originated roles in the works of Eduardo Vilaro and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.
When Javier is not dancing, singing, acting, flying or choreographing, you can find him listening to the waves by the beach.
