Matt Sweeney

Matt was born in Stamford, CT, only an hour train-ride from New York City. Even before he found a passion for performing, he had a chance to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Broadway and was captivated. He began taking classes at his local community theatre, followed a teacher from there to John Robert Powers, and started pursuing a film/TV career. It was actually Jim Daly that pointed him in the direction of musical theatre., and he hasn’t looked back. He booked his first professional gig at Pines Dinner Theatre through the Strawhat Auditions, where he played Cosmo Brown in Singin’ in the Rain. In May of 2018, Matt graduated from Rider University with a BFA in Musical Theatre and is excited to work with Jim and the Bloc team again.

Matt is an accomplished and passionate musician, and plays drums, piano and guitar. He is an avid ultimate frisbee player, and has a passion for fitness, health and nutrition.

One of Matt’s biggest role models in the business is Gavin Creel, for his buttery vocal chops and courageous social justice activism.
