Jo Ellen Pellman

A proud Midwestern transplant, I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, raised in Cincinnati, OH, and educated in Ann Arbor, MI before moving to New York to pursue an acting career. Though I grew up playing sports, I realized at an early age that if I wanted to sweat profusely in front of a crowd while wearing an ill-fitting outfit, I wanted to do it on a stage! I achieved a BFA in Musical Theatre and a Minor in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan, and during my time in college, I also studied Shakespeare at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.

In addition to performing, I’ve taught theatre and music therapy workshops with Michigan Performance Outreach Workshops (Ann Arbor, MI) and Khula Aasman Trust (Mumbai, India). I was named a 2017 Summer in South Asian Fellow, where I studied the effects of creative arts therapy workshops in marginalized communities across Mumbai.

I am now a New York based actor, where I try each day to live by the words of my professor and mentor Brent Wagner, “You can’t move forward while looking to the side.”
