MJ Edwards

My first dramatic performance was on June 26, 2001. I was born a preemie of 1lb 14oz in Valhalla, NY. One day my parents and I were walking in our local mall and a woman stopped my parents and suggested I have a face for commercials. My parents were extremely skeptical, but I really wanted to go to the woman’s office and see if I could be on television or magazines.

My love for dance, I believed, began as soon as I was born. I was dancing to the music on the radio, on television commercials, playing in stores and everywhere else.
In the 5th grade, I started teaching and choreographing Zumba classes with my Mom.
In 2011, I had the honor of being asked to join the Launch Showcase in Chicago.  I was able to dance a solo Hip Hop piece, model some cool clothes and show my acting skills.

This showcase gave me the confidence and desire to go on more auditions.

I was able to be in a NFL commercial and a Red Lobster commercial that aired for several weeks on national television. I now study at Actors Technique NY.
When I’m not auditioning, I enjoy gymnastics, bowling and playing video games. But my ultimate pass time is Dancing!

My interest in dance really took off when Michael Jackson passed away.  Hearing and seeing him dance and sing on television, I mimicked his every move. My LOVE and PASSION just continued to grow.  My mom found a local dance school, Sunshine Dance Studio, in Middletown, NY whose director/teacher is a former Alvin Ailey Company dancer. There I learned proper dancing techniques in all forms of dance. I have gone on to be accepted at Alvin Ailey’s Summer & Fall Pre-Professional Program and dance at School At STEPS.

I am a current freshman at LaGuardia Performing Arts High School in NYC and embracing every minute of it.

“I am who I am!”
