Gillian Abbott

Gillian Abbott is 22 years old. She was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta where she fell in love with performing as a Young Canadian of the Calgary Stampede! She trained under Wendy Nelson and Susan Mensinger in tap, jazz and contemporary, competing nationally and internationally. She attended the International Ballet School in Calgary from 2005-2008 and The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in the summer of 2006. She appeared in the movie “Center Stage 2: Turn it Up” by Sony Entertainment. Gillian was a full-time artist in Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles LOVE show in Las Vegas from 2008-2009. In 2011 she was part of the creation workshop for “Dancer” a musical by Ginger Cat Productions, choreographed by Stacey Tookey. She received her BFA from The Juilliard School in May 2013. Gillian has performed with The Juilliard Ensemble in The New York City Center Fall for Dance Festival as well as the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland. She is the Western Canada Director of FRESH Dance Intensive and has taught in Canada and the United States. In February 2014 she will perform in Prince Igor at the Metropolitan Opera. She had her first major role as an actor in the independent full-length feature “The Picco Incident” and is excited to see where acting will lead her next. Her greatest influences are her family, friends and wonderful teachers she’s had along the way. She would like to thank the Alberta Foundation for the Arts for their support.
