Erika Shannon has worked on both the performing and creative sides of theatre. Originally from Pittsburgh, she is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan’s Musical Theatre Program. Erika most recently appeared in the Broadway First National Tour of ROCK OF AGES as a Swing and Dance Captain, and she has also toured internationally with WEST SIDE STORY, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, and FAME- THE MUSICAL. Other theatrical credits include SWEENEY TODD, GREASE!, CRAZY FOR YOU, 42ND STREET, SUGAR BABIES, A CHORUS LINE, MARATHON ’33, CAROUSEL, OKLAHOMA!, et. al. You may have seen Erika on television on commercials for L’Oreal or Weight Watchers, or on “All My Children,” “30 Rock,” “The View”, “Lopez Tonight”, “Good Day L.A.,” or “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
As a choreographer, Erika has assisted both Tony-nominated choreographer John Carrafa and award winning choreographer Michael Rooney, as well as staged live performances for new recording artists at Warner Music Group (WMG) and choreographed the video “Crumble” by emerging pop star ASTR. Her work has been seen on “Ugly Betty,” “The Tyra Banks Show,” and in the ABC Family movie musical, ELIXIR (on which she assisted Rooney and also served as Dance Coordinator). Erika has also choreographed several benefits and industrials in New York and nationally.
As a teacher, Erika has appeared as a guest instructor and lecturer at The University of Michigan, New York University, The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Academy of Musical Theatre, Dance Masters of America, Abby Lee Dance Company, Equinox, Can-Fit Pro, and is co-founder of MTCollegePrep.com, a website for kids who want to go to college for Musical Theatre. She is passionate about creating well adjusted, happy, and well rounded performers, and loves to challenge and inspire her students! Do what you love. Period.
